Man Killed in Alamo Crash Identified

The victim died in a fiery crash off Interstate Highway 680.

A man who died last month when his vehicle crashed and caught on fire on an Interstate Highway 680 off-ramp in the community of Alamo was identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Coroner’s officials identified Aaron Shepard, 38, of San Francisco, as the sole victim of the crash that occurred Nov. 27 on southbound Highway 680’s off-ramp to Livorna Road.

California Highway Patrol officers received a report about the incident at 2:40 a.m. that day.

The vehicle, a 1999 Acura, had exited the highway at a high rate of speed and Shepard apparently lost control, according to the CHP. The vehicle then went down an embankment, struck a tree and landed on its passenger side on the off-ramp, according to the CHP. The Acura then burst into flames and Shepard was trapped inside.

Shepard’s dental records were not readily available, making it difficult to identify him as the victim, coroner’s officials said.
