Meals on Wheels Diablo Region Seeks Fans During Heat Warning

Heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses are extremely serious, especially for the elderly. Because many seniors in our community do not have air conditioning, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region has started The Fan Club.

Becoming a “member” is easy. All we ask you to do is donate a new fan to MOW Diablo Region so our volunteers can deliver them to seniors in need. In addition to fans, the organization is also collecting new air purifiers for use during fire and allergy season. Air purifiers allow older adults, especially those with breathing conditions, to have a cleaner breathing environment. The reward for your membership is knowing you are helping seniors stay safe and healthy at home. (MOW Diablo Region will also send a tax receipt for your donation.)

“When we deliver meals, we have a chance to do a safety check on our clients,” says Caitlin Sly, Executive Director. “But heatstroke can occur quickly and may have serious consequences. A fan provides significant relief during the scorching summer days.”

Donations of new fans or air purifiers can be sent directly to Meals on Wheels Diablo Region through Target, Amazon, or any other online retailer, or can be dropped off in person at MOW Diablo Region, 1300 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek between the hours of 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Since June 21st and 22nd are Amazon Prime Days, it’s a great time to take advantage of becoming a member of The Fan Club!
