DANVILLE, CA — The Reutlinger Community in Danville provides services and care for up to 180 seniors, so its only fitting that an exhibit showcasing artworks from some of its residents would be titled "Memory and Imagination."

The Town of Danville’s Village Theatre Art Gallery is presenting the exhibit, with a free opening reception Aug. 25, 2-4 p.m.

Many of the artworks feature renditions and colorful creations, including landscapes of places remembered. Also included are abstract works, which focus more on the imagination of the artist and the viewer, according to the Town of Danville.

The works are part of a program at The Reutlinger Community called "Discovering the Artist Within," which allows seniors to explore different types of media and discover their artistic potential. The program is led by artist-in residence Betty Rothaus. She holds a BFA in painting and an MFA in printmaking, in addition to a degree as a specialist in art education.

Rothaus is the guest curator of the "Memory and Imagination" exhibit that runs Aug. 25 through Oct. 12.
