MVHS Teen Competes In Junior Olympic Fencing Championships
This was Christopher Sohn's third trip to the Junior Olympics.
DANVILLE, CA — A Danville teenager recently took one of the top 35 spots in the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships in Denver, Colorado. Christopher Sohn, 16, a junior at Monte Vista High School, placed 33rd out of 319 competitors. This was his third trip to the Junior Olympics.
Sohn trains with Olympic Coach Greg Massialas’s MTeam Fencing Club in San Francisco. He has trained for more than six years and first learned the sport recreationally under East Bay fencing coach George Platt in Concord, according to his family.
Sohn is currently 46th on the Cadet Men’s Foil National Point Standings and is also on the Junior Men’s Foil National Point Standings. In the current season, Sohn has earned numerous medals in various competitions, including silver at the UCSD BladeRunner tournament at UC San Diego and bronze at the RJCC tournament in San Jose. In the 2017-2018 season, Sohn won gold at the Division II Men’s Foil event at the North American Cup in Anaheim.

Sohn is an active member of Key Club and plays trumpet for Monte Vista’s Wind Ensemble.
