New Radios For Danville Police Officers

The new radios allow officers to quickly communicate with outside agencies.

Officers in Danville have received new radios as part of the department's involvement to the East Bay Regional Communications System Authority, the Town announced last week.

About 80 percent of Danville police staff have received the new radios. The benefit of the new radios is it easily allows Danville police to communicate with other police departments.

Danville joined the EBRCSA in April and Police Chief Steve Simpkins said, "It used to be we had to use telephones or go through dispatch, but now we can communicate with another agency almost immediately."

There are 42 other police and regional departments using the system and is being funded through federal and state grants, as well as cost sharing by the member agencies based on the number of radios they are operating, the town says.
