Remembering Danville Resident Margit Demus Kratochvil
A celebration of life will be at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Nov. 11.
DANVILLE, CA — Margit passed away peacefully at Palm Garden Memory Care Home in Danville. Margit always had a smile on her face and was known for her peaceful, caring and quiet nature. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother and dear friend.
She was loved and treasured by her husband of 61 years Jan Kratochvil, their three children and six grandchildren; Jan Kratochvil Jr. his sons Layton Gaunder and Cort Cepedes, Debra Kratochvil Gliozzi (Richard, d 2013), their children Jessica, Jacqueline and Richard-Thomas, and Charles Kratochvil his wife Lisa Morton and their son Brock.
With a newborn in her arms and not speaking a word of English, Margit came to the US in December 1956 at the age of 21. Seeking the American dream, her family lived in Ohio, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Florida, Oregon, California and spent 20 years retired in Sun City, Arizona before moving to Danville. During her husband’s retirement, Margit worked part time at Dillard’s Department Store.

She loved to keeping in touch with the many friends she met throughout her life. She enjoyed drinking coffee in the sun while overlooking the lake in her backyard.
Margit was born in Andersdorf, Czechoslovakia in Romerstadt County. She had eight brothers and sisters, many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She is survived by three sisters and a brother in Germany Herta Hoedl, Gundi Schmid, Marie Ockel and Hans Demus. She is predeceased by her parents Johann and Kundegunde Demus and her brothers Franz, Josel, Bruno and Hugo.
