Remembering Fred Barraco of Danville

A celebration of life is planned for Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.

A celebration of life is planned today for a former longtime barber of the Frontier Barbershop in Danville. According to the Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley, Fred Barraco died on August 12.

The celebration is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Danville Veterans Hall.

Barraco was well-known in the San Ramon Valley. According to a YouTube video filmed by Danville resident Robert Raines, Barraco had been cutting hair since 1967. In the short movie, Barraco shares his memories of the assorted Danville characters who used to visit the shop.

Barraco supported local veterans by giving free haircuts every August at the annual “East Bay Stand Down” held at the Alameda County fairgrounds, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

The Frontier Barbershop has been a mainstay in the community since it opened in 1949 and has served generations of families over the years.

The Veterans Memorial building is located at 400 Hartz Ave. in Danville, just a 100 yards north of his barbershop.
