Rotary Club of Alamo Elects New President

Joan Grimes has been elected President for the 2017-2018 Rotary Year which took effect on Jul. 1.

From The Rotary Club of Alamo: Joan Grimes has been elected president of the Rotary Club of Alamo for the 2017- 2018 Rotary Year, effective July 1. She succeeds Beth Burlingame-Randall who served as the 2016-2017 Club President.

Joan joined The Rotary Club of Alamo in early 2016. She is an attorney specializing in Estate Planning and
Bankruptcy Law. Her offices are in Walnut Creek and Brentwood. Joan grew up and still resides in Lafayette.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from U.C. Berkeley and her Law Degree from Cal
Western School of Law. Joan will be leading a major Club project to help the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord and will also be focused on the Alamo Rotary Club’s participation in the Christmas Tree Lighting; the Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day, which is held at Livorna Park; the Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troops that are sponsored by the Club and many more key activities.

The Club also announced officers for 2017-201, including Joan; Jack Thompson, 2018-2019 president elect and international director; Jim Schuppert, treasurer; Karen McPherson, secretary; and Beth Burlingame-Randall, immediate past president and youth services director. Other directors include Steve Larmore, community service; Diane Barley, club service; Greg Schuyler, foundation; Dana Wellington, membership and retention; Steve Collins, Steve Polcyn and Kim Smith, at-large directors.

The Rotary Club of Alamo was founded on May 7, 1971 and has 50 members. The Club supports various
programs at Alamo and Rancho Romero Elementary Schools, Lucille Mauzy School, Stone Valley Middle School, Monte Vista and San Ramon High Schools; provides dictionaries to third grade students; sponsors two free medical clinics for uninsured and underserved adults with acute or chronic medical conditions, as well as other community and international projects. The Club meets on Wednesdays at 12:15 p.m. temporarily at Blackhawk Country Club, 599 Blackhawk Country Drive, Danville, while Round Hill Country Club is remodeled.
