DANVILLE, CA — A fitness fundraiser hosted by StarCycle Danville will benefit the family of a 9-year-old Danville girl who is recovering from a viral infection in her heart. In November, Ava Rhodes was rushed to the hospital and placed in critical care, according to friends.

Doctors diagnosed Ava with myocarditis and she has spent the past few weeks recovering at the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center. Her mother Mary Rhodes, who is a widow and has two other children, has been by her daughter’s side throughout the ordeal.

Jenn Soine, the owner of StarCycle Danville, told Patch she has known Ava and her family for years and wanted to help. A GoFundMe page created for the Rhodes family has garnered more than $37,000 since it was created in November.

“Our community is INCREDIBLE and has come together quickly to support the Rhodes family and help with bills while Mary has to take time off of work to manage it all,” Soine told Patch. “We are blessed to be part of such love and support and will continue to come together to do what we can!”

Soine invites the community to join the charity ride at StarCycle Danville at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10. The event will include a 45-minute ride and light refreshments. Donations of $50, $75 or $100 can be made at the event in the form of cash, Venmo or check. Those interested in participating may email: danville@starcycleride.com or register online. Visit the Danville studio at 155 Railroad Ave., Suite A.
