Does Danville's Spending on Clothes Make for Awesome Thrift Stores?

A 2011 study shows that Danville ranks number one in the country for consumer spending on clothes. How do the town's second-hand shops fare?

According to a study done by the PinPoint Research group, Danville, Calif. was ranked the leading area in the country for consumer spending on clothing in 2011. 

Here at Patch, we wondered if clearing space in the closet for incoming threads makes for top-choice donations at local thrift stores. What do you think?

Here's a list of local thrift, consignment, gently-worn or second-hand shops in town. Descriptions are according to Patch listings.

Hospice of the East Bay: 444 Diablo Rd, Danville
The Hospice foundation supports elderly citizens who need assisted living because of health or age reasons. The store accepts clothing, purses and some home furnishings.

The Thrift Station: 486 San Ramon Valley Blvd, Danville
The main goal of The Thrift Station, an almost 40-year-old resale shop staffed by volunteers, in support for Discovery Counseling Center, which provides counseling, alcohol and drug recovery, support and prevention services in the San Ramon Valley. It has a partnership with the San Ramon Valley School District, with interns working in the school. It sells anything that individuals donate.

Consignit Couture: 398 Hartz Ave, Danville
Consignit Couture is a designer consignment store located on Hartz Avenue in Danville. The store carries a variety of  ready-to-wear designer fashions for women, including Chanel, Prada, Lilith, Tory Burch, YSL, Hermes, Gucci, Versace and Louis Vuitton. A Dress Change Consignment Shop: 125 Railroad Ave, Suite B, Danville
The beautifully appointed store, with faux finish yellow and coral walls, and contrasting leopard pattern carpet, offers high-end garments and accessories for both casual and dressy occasions.

Something Old, Something New: 155 Railroad Ave., Suite E, Danville
"Some women spend a fortune on their clothes, others just look that way," is Saundra Jones' motto. And she should know, being the proprieter of Something Old, Something New for 25 years, selling women's designer clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories, on consignment. If you want something different, like a Rachel Zoe jacket with fake-fur detail on the collar, this is the place to go.

Carla Pie Consignment Boutique: 109F, Town and Country Dr., Danville
CarlaPie is located in the Town and Country Shopping Center and has been open at this location since August of 2005. This full consignment store specializes in baby, kids, tween and maternity apparel.  The store carries games, gear and gifts, books and videos.

Snickerdoodles: 442 Hartz Ave, Danville
Snickerdoodles has been in business for 15 years, offering top quality consignment items for children, from newborns to age six, as well as expectant mothers. Items for sale include shoes, clothes, toys, baby items, furniture, maternity clothing and more.

Cottage Jewel: 100 E Prospect Ave, Danville
If you are looking for a vintage jeweled ring, a cameo brooch or any tiny wearable treasure that's out-of-the-ordinary, Cottage Jewel on Prospect Avenue is the perfect destination. Owner Marcia Harmon says customers come in to her shop because "they want something they can't find anywhere else." From delicate rings of amethyst, to sterling silver hand mirrors, her shop is a wall-to-wall gallery of wearable antique art.
