2 Pitbulls Shot & Killed During Woodland Probation Search

Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies shot and killed two pitbulls after the animals charged at them during a probation search, according to Sergeant Lance Faille. 

At around 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 17, deputies conducted a probation search at 138 Antelope St. in Woodland. Here's an account of the incident from the Yolo County Sherrif's Department: 

Inside the residence they located two subjects, 46 year-old Carol Vitalie and 43 year-old Vincent Van Asperson and three pit bull dogs. The three pit bull dogs were in a bedroom that needed to be searched. Yolo County Animal Control Officers responded to remove the dogs from the bedroom.

While one dog was being removed by an animal control officer, a second came charging out of the bedroom and a deputy Tased that pit bull. A third pit bull came out of the bedroom tearing the electrical wires from the Taser’s barbs. Both loose pit bulls charged two different deputies in separate locations of the residence and were shot by those deputies. The pit bulls were transported to UC Davis Animal Hospital and were deceased on arrival. The third pit bull was removed from the residence as well as five other dogs that were in the back yard, they are currently at the Yolo County Animal Shelter. None of the dogs were properly licensed.

Vitalie and Van Asperson were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and booked at the Monroe detention Facility.

The subject of the search, Shane Edgington, was not located at the residence at the time of the search.
