Car Burglary Arrest in South Davis Leads to Pursuit, Shot Fired & Tasering

A man was arrested in South Davis Tuesday after a pursuit that led one officer to fire his weapon in an attempt to disable a vehicle. A Taser was later used to subdue the suspect, who attempted to flee several times. 

The officer heard a car alarm sounding near Davis Swim and Fitness on Ensenada Way around 5:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. When the officer pulled into the parking lot to investigate, he saw Marcus Ford, 27, of Yuba City, running from the area.

Ford got in his vehicle to flee, but stopped shortly after, according to police. He then started his car in another attempt to flee. 

Here's what Davis Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow said about the rest of the altercation: 

The officer was able to turn Ford's car off and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, Ford restarted his vehicle and attempted to drive away with the officer still in the car. An arriving Davis Police Sergeant saw the officer and Ford engaged in a violent struggle inside Ford's vehicle. The arriving Sergeant, a 14 year veteran of the Davis Police Department, discharged his firearm at Ford's car in order to disable it after it started to quickly accelerate. Although the vehicle stopped, Ford continued to resist arrest. He was finally subdued with the use of an electronic control device. 

Neither the officers nor Ford were seriously injured in the incident. 

Ford was lodged at the Monroe Detention Center on charges stemming from this incident as well as an outstanding felony arrest warrant out of Sutter County.
