Dozens Ripped Off By Fake Lake Tahoe Vacation Rental Company, Warns Officials
The El Dorado District Attorney's office reports a recent influx of travelers ripped off by fraudulent luxury home rental ads.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA- Officials from the El Dorado District Attorney’s Office are warning travelers about scammers after nearly three dozen people have been ripped off by a fraudulent online rental company this year, according to ABC News.
ABC reports that at least 30 people have booked Tahoe vacation homes online through Craigslist ads using property listings swiped from a real company called The Tahoe Destination Vacation Rental Company.
The company’s owner, Kathy Jo Liebhardt, told ABC news that the scammers are taking photos and documentation from her website and marketing them as their own, then disappearing with the victim's money.

District Attorney's officials warned, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, telling ABC news that if you see a really great deal compared to all the other houses in the area, that it’s a red flag. Other red flags include asking for a wire transfer instead of using a credit card, and large deposit requests.
