Flood Warning Issued For Yolo, Solano Counties

Davis, Vacaville and Fairfield are among cities where flooding is forecast, according to the NWS out of Sacramento.

YOLO and SOLANO COUNTIES, CA — As a winter storm bears down on Northern California, a flood warning was in effect Wednesday for regions including Yolo and Solano counties. According to the National Weather Service's Sacramento office, the flood warning is for urban areas and small streams.

Some locations that will experience flooding, forecasters say, include: Sacramento, Marysville, Stockton, Modesto, Elk Grove, Roseville,Fairfield, Vacaville, Chico, Grass Valley, Jackson, CitrusHeights, Tracy, Folsom, Turlock, Davis, Rocklin, Woodland, Ceres, Galt and Oakdale.

The flood warning continues until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday morning, "Caltrans reported multiple locations with road flooding in the Central Valley. So far, a half an inch to 3 inches of rain have fallen across the area," NWS officials said in the warning.

In Fairfield, the Fairfield Police Department advised at about 10:42 a.m. Wednesday that Vanden Road was closed between Canon Road and Peabody Road because of flooding. The roadway was expected to remain closed until further notice, Fairfield police said in a Nixle alert.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads," weather officials said. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles."

Forecasters were expecting "moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue through the rest of the day into the evening. Snow in the foothills will melt, adding to the runoff."

"Higher elevation snowpack should be able to absorb much of the rain," forecasters said.
