Francis Ford Coppola & a Local Film Fest that Never Happened

Does this email ring any bells? Share below.

I received this in an email last week:

Many years ago I heard that Francis Ford Coppola had approached the City of Davis with a proposal for a film festival, hoping that it would rival the Sundance Film Fest. I think this was in 2002-ish. If I recall correctly, the City Council turned him down due to concerns about the increased vehicular traffic around town during the festival. I often think of not only how much fun that would have been to have Davis descended upon by filmmakers, celebs, aspiring screenwriters, etc...but also how much of a financial boon that would have been for our city. Back then this wasn't a concern, but with current budget issues, it could have made a huge difference. Anyway, I haven't been able to find any official information regarding this...any interest in harnessing your Patch Powers to see if anyone out there remembers this?

- Thanks! Christine

If the community can't remember, I'll put the question out to the city and see if they have any record. We asked a similar question last week about what restaurants used to occupy the Black Bear Diner location. The community's response was beyond impressive.
