Inmate Scaled Barbed-Wire Fence & Escaped Yolo County Jail Friday Morning

An 18-year-old inmate scaled a barbed-wire fence at the Walter J. Leinberger Center Friday morning and escaped from the minimum security facility. He was caught shortly after at a Starbucks in a nearby shopping center. 

Gabriel Eugene Weston was originally arrested by the Davis Police Department on Tuesday. He was in possession of a stolen vehicle, drug paraphernalia, obstructing a police officer and driving without a license, according to the Yolo County Sheriff's Office.  

They released the following statement Friday:  

"Today at 6:35 a.m., a Yolo County Correctional Officer observed Weston climbing the perimeter fence of the Leinberger Detention Facility. Weston ran westbound on Gibson Road. Yolo County Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area within two minutes, and along with Woodland Police, set up a perimeter in the area. 18 minutes after the escape, a citizen called 911 reporting that they observed the escapee at the Gibson Plaza Shopping Center. Another citizen flagged down officers at the shopping center saying the same. Deputies immediately located Weston hiding by some dumpsters in the shopping center. Weston was arrested for escape and returned the Monroe Detention Center."

Citizens in Woodland called in with information and assisted in the capture of Gabriel Weston.
