Patrols, DUI Checkpoint Net 13 Arrests Over the Weekend

The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 8 DUI deployments overnight in Yolo County.

The streets of Yolo County became a bit safer to drive with the remove of 13 suspected drunken drivers.

Yolo County law enforcement officials representing eight agencies throughout the county arrested 13 individuals on suspicion of DUI over the weekend in a series of DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols.

On Friday, Aug. 16, the county’s Avoid the 8 task force set up in Woodland for a saturation patrol. Three officers made nine vehicle stops; evaluated two drivers for impairment and arrested one for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

In addition the officers cited six other motorists for various vehicle code violations.

On the following day, Saturday, officers set up a checkpoint on East Main Street just east of Thomas Street in Woodland. A total of 825 vehicles passed through and with officers evaluating seven for impairment and arresting two individuals on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. Police cited six drivers for either driving with a suspended/revoked license or for driving when they have never been issued a license, according to police.

Over the course of the next two weeks of the campaign extra DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed in the  cities of Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento, Davis and the un-incorporated areas of Yolo County.

All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts.  

Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer:  Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911.  Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI arrest data collection will continue through Labor Day midnight Monday, September 2, 2013.  Avoid  programs, named for the number of police agencies in each county, Multiple/DUI Driver’s License  Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols are set region wide  during 18 day Summer/Labor Day Campaign.
