Pedestrian Fatally Struck On US-50 In West Sacramento: CHP

The Yolo County Coroner's Office was working to identify a man struck by multiple vehicles as he tried to cross the highway.

YOLO COUNTY, CA — The Yolo County Coroner's Office was working to identify a pedestrian who was fatally struck early Friday while trying to cross U.S. Highway 50 in West Sacramento. The male pedestrian was trying to walk north across eastbound US-50, east of Interstate 80, at about 4:45 a.m. when he was hit by multiple vehicles, according to California Highway Patrol Spokesman Rodney Fitzhugh.

A 2013 Peterbilt big rig and a 2014 Hiro delivery truck were among the vehicles the man was struck by , according to CHP's report on the fatal incident. The driver of the Petrbilt, a 52-year-old man from Sacramento, stopped and spoke with officers, as did a 42-year-old Winters man who was driving the delivery truck.

At least two other drivers also stopped at the crash scene and provided statements to CHP officers, Fitzhugh said.

Coroner's officials had not yet been able to identify the man as of 9:40 a.m. Friday when Fitzhugh issued a statement about the fatality.

CHP was continuing its investigation, with no criminal charges substantiated and no evidence that alcohol or drugs were factors, according to Fitzhugh's statement.
