Rain (Say What?) Forecasted During Game 4 of World Series

Much needed in the Bay area. But will it wash out the game?

Rain is forecasted beginning tonight and into Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, threatening to interrupt Game Four of the World Series.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain tonight after 11 p.m., the National Weather Service reports, with increasing clouds and a low temperature of around 58 degrees.

On Saturday, showers are likely throughout the day, the National Weather Service said, with thunderstorms possible after 11 a.m.

On Saturday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11 p.m. with partly cloudy skies and a low around 56 degrees.

It’s unclear how much that will impact Game Four of the World Series as the Kansas City Royals play the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Jan Null of Golden Gate Weather said the rain is expected to be short-lived.

“It doesn’t look like this (game) would get rained out,” Null said. “It’s likely to be a brief shower. They’ll cover the field and everyone will get some coffee and then they’ll get back to it.”

Games are only washed out when the rainfall continues for several hours, Null said.

In 1962, the sixth game of the World Series between the Giants and the Yankees was washed out in the infamous Columbus Day Storm.

The storm left 46 people dead in Oregon, felled trees, and brought flood conditions throughout the northwest.

The storm on Saturday is expected to be significantly tamer, Null said.

The National Weather Service said less than an inch of rain is expected to fall on the North Bay with less than one-quarter inch elsewhere, except in the Santa Cruz mountains.

The National Weather Service said forecasts show the North Bay will receive the most rainfall with totals expected to drop off significantly south of the Golden Gate.
