WATCH: Davis Police Officer Frees Woman Trapped In Burning Car
The harrowing rescue was caught on the officer's body-worn camera.
DAVIS, CA — The Davis Police Department thanked one of its own for saving a woman who was trapped inside a burning car.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday when Davis police officers, including Cpl. Pheng Ly, were sent to a car fire on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 near Kidwell Road.
"Upon arrival ... Ly found that the vehicle was overturned, and the engine compartment as well as part of the passenger compartment were fully engulfed in flames," Davis police said.

Meanwhile, the woman was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation, and was ultimately arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence, Davis police said.
The corporal's brave actions were caught on his body-worn camera.
It turned out, the closest California Highway Patrol officer was at least 30 minutes away at the jail in Fairfield. Ly was just a couple of minutes away, so he hurried to the scene, according to a news report.
"It also dawned upon me that this lady’s survival was dependent upon my actions and my actions alone. So, she was depending on me to save her," Ly said in an interview with Fox 40. "And I realized that this was a very dire situation and something needed to happen right away."
Ly, a 21-year veteran of the force, recalled feeling the heat from the flames on his face but still didn't think it was anything other than a normal day on the job.
When a supervisor watched the video, his colleagues got word of his heroic deed.
"Thank you, Corporal Ly for running into danger to save a life," Davis police said in a Facebook post. "We are a little extra proud today."
