Yolo County Man Killed When Retaining Wall Collapses In Marin Co.
Cal OSHA is investigating the fatal incident, which occurred Monday on East Marin Island.

MARIN and YOLO COUNTIES, CA — A construction worker who died Monday while on the job in Marin County was identified Tuesday as a Yolo County man. Shawn Frederick Moore, 39, of Woodland, was demolishing an old stone structure on East Marin Island when a rock and concrete retaining wall collapsed, according to the San Rafael Fire Department and the Marin County coroner's office.
Moore suffered extensive crushing and traumatic injuries and died before he was freed from the rubble, Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding said.
The death occurred in the Marin Islands National Wildlife Refuge located off the shore of San Rafael Bay, according to the coroner's office.

Fire crews responded at 2:45 p.m. with their fireboat "Confidence." Firefighters found the worker trapped beneath the collapsed wall had died from his injuries.
The worker was employed by Resource Environmental Inc., based in Long Beach, according to Frank Polizzi, spokesman for the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, which is investigating the death. Polizzi said the wall was 9-by-20 feet.

A call to Resource Environmental Inc. was not returned Tuesday morning.
