CHP Dublin has increased its senior volunteer corps to increase service to the community.

(CHP Dublin)

On July 14, 2022, The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Dublin Area hired eleven new senior volunteers who attended and graduated from a two-day senior volunteer academy. The CHP Dublin senior volunteers now total twenty-nine volunteers. These volunteers will assist officers at community events and safety presentations, deploy the radar trailer, conduct speed and distracted driving surveys, transport vehicles/equipment, and go on ride-a-longs. Volunteers will also help with filing, data entry, answering phones and greeting citizens when they come into the office.

?The CHP provides safety through service. Today?s eleven new senior volunteers will be integral for us to achieve that goal. Senior volunteer efforts free up both uniformed and non-uniformed members of the Department to concentrate on their core duties,? said Captain Christopher Sherry. ?I am excited to work with this diverse group of caring citizens to help the CHP save lives while we improve departmental efficiency.?

Following the Pledge of Allegiance led by Officer Robert Purl, Senior Volunteer President Peter Lee spoke about the recent training academy and the duties the senior volunteers perform. CHP Citizen?s Advisory Board Member Tanya Thomas provided encouraging remarks to the group. Assistant Chief Jason Reardon provided the graduates their training certificates and Commander Sherry presented them their badges. The senior volunteers were sworn in by Commander Sherry.
