The Utility Box Art forms part of the Public Art Program for the City and has proven to be popular with residents. The designs have added color and character to Dublin’s streets, while deterring graffiti and other forms of vandalism.

Located at the corner of Scarlett Drive and Dublin Boulevard, where the Iron Horse trail runs into Dublin Boulevard and across from the Arlen Ness motorcycle dealer is a design titled "1953" created by local artists Jennifer Huber.

"The box “1953” is a picture of my Dad and his cadillac driving the California back roads," said Jennifer. "Conceivably, he might have passed through Dublin back when it was just a gas station on the side."

Following positive public response to painted utility boxes Dublin has added around town, the Dublin City Council has approved funding for ten more utility boxes to be painted in Summer 2020.

Local artists have an opportunity to turn these ten standard utility boxes into eye-catching works of public art.

The utility boxes are at various intersections throughout Dublin. Artists may review the locations and specify which utility box they would like to paint on their applications, if they have a preference. However, the City reserves the right to assign utility boxes at its discretion.

Themes for the designs must "include or reflect the City’s diversity, historic heritage, or key activity through Dublin.”

The program information and artist application can be found on the City of Dublin website.
