They were booked into jail Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of Lil Yase but prosecutors declined to charge them, KRON reported.

DUBLIN, CA — The Alameda County District Attorney's Office will not press charges against two Dublin residents arrested on suspicion of killing a rising star in the Bay Area rap scene, KRON reported.
Angel D. Butler, 28, and Jovante D. Williams, 28, were taken into custody Tuesday and faced murder charges in the killing of Mark Alexander Jr., 26, known to fans as Lil Yase. They were no longer in custody at Santa Rita Jail as of Friday morning.
Butler and Williams, who share a home and child together, were released Thursday, and their scheduled arraignment was canceled, KRON reported.

Butler had a relationship with Alexander, Dublin Police Capt. Nate Schmidt said earlier this week. Alexander drove from a recording studio near San Francisco to Dublin to see her on the night he was killed, he said.
Police found DNA from the child that Butler and Williams share on shell casings at the crime scene, Schmidt said. Alexander also spoke with police and gave information about the shooting before he died, and investigators reviewed electronic data such as cell phones and social media before making the arrests.
Alexander's death was the second killing in Dublin in 2020 and just the third since 2009.
