DUI Checkpoint Planned In Dublin This Month
Here's what you need to know about an overnight DUI checkpoint announced Tuesday by Dublin Police Services.

DUBLIN, CA — Police will hold a checkpoint this month to look for people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The DUI checkpoint is slated for May 29, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., police announced Tuesday.
It will be set up near Dublin Boulevard and Civic Plaza. Police choose checkpoint locations based on the history of DUI crashes and arrests.

“We are looking for impaired drivers, because driving under the influence is dangerous and puts others on the road at risk," Capt. Nate Schmidt said in a news release from Dublin Police Services.
First-time DUI offenders face a suspended license and $13,500 in fines and penalties, police said.

Officers remind drivers that some prescription and over-the-counter medications can cause impairment; keep an eye out of warning labels about driving or operating heavy machinery, which includes cars. Driving under the influence of cannabis remains illegal.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
