DUBLIN, CA — The Casa Orozco staff lucked out last Thursday when a couple left their bartender an $855 tip for her and the kitchen staff.

Bartender and server Marissa Trevino, of Hayward, said she was shocked when she saw the bill and checked it a few times. She thought her customers made a tipsy mistake when she saw they tipped her $855 on a $55 bill, Casa Orozco said on its Facebook page.

The couple said they had a good month and wanted to spread their generosity, Trevino said.

"I still think it's too good to be true, to be honest," she said.

Trevino asked the couple to correct their error, but they said they left the tip on purpose, the restaurant said. She asked her manager to confirm the $855 tip with them, too. Restaurant co-owner Jesus Orozco even called to check the next day.

The couple said they had been to the restaurant several times and the food and service was always great, Casa Orozco said. They said they worked in the restaurant industry when they were younger, working their way up to serving from washing dishes, according to the restaurant. It can be a thankless job, the couple said.

"This story struck us so deeply that we felt we needed to share it," the restaurant said.

People don't always realize how important kitchen staff are, Trevino said. The kitchen was excited to hear the good news.

Trevino graduated from California State University, East Bay in December and said the money will help her as she starts paying off student loans soon.

"It's going to be very helpful," she said. "I still don't fully believe it."
