Ron Krumbach, the usually mild mannered, jovial and all round fun resident of Dublin takes on a completely different persona on the night of Halloween and people from surrounding neighborhoods have been drawn to the scary results of his transformation.

Even while conducting this interview in the bright morning sunshine, taking photos of Ron in his costume is not for the feint-hearted. His two beautiful dogs howling in the background when they hear his voice adds to the surreal scene.

Ron has been haunting the neighborhood for about ten years and says "Halloween is my favorite holiday and I enjoy giving people the real thrill they are seeking. It's fascinating to see how people respond - they are frightened but they come back for more!"

His family joins in the scary production and take their roles very seriously. His lovely wife Bambi transforms into the witch who distributes the candy - if you are brave enough to make it to the front door. Everyone stays in character and there is no recognition of their regular selves. The involvement of live characters in the display was the brainchild of their son who donned a dark Halloween costume and perched on a chair on the front lawn. Unbeknownst to the trick-or-treaters the hooded figure stood up after they collected their candy and startled them so badly that they ran off dropping their sweet treats.

"I love going to their house on the day after Halloween" said the young girl next door, "the kids drop all their candy from fright so there is lots to pick up!"

Ron encourages his family to treat both children and adults alike to ensure that the scary facade is convincingly creepy. Their neighbors cooperate to keep light to a minimum on the night and maintain the spine-tingling atmosphere which is enhanced by lights and bone chilling music.

The house is at the end of a cul-de-sac so the absence of traffic allows crowds to gather outside and they estimated that there were about 350 trick-or-treaters present at peak time. They have to be well stocked with candy and the numbers grow every year.

"At one point all of our kids have participated and we enjoy watching the neighborhood kids laugh, scream , become more and more brave and have fun on Halloween!" said Bambi, It’s also fun for the parents! We feel like we are putting on a show for everyone! Every year we like to add something new."

Ron regularly adds to his props which follow a zombie theme and has some special additions in store. The flying ghost he added to his display last year unfortunately has mechanism issues so will not make a repeat appearance. Due to the limited space for frightening items he is contemplating adding a walk-through structure in future.

People bring their kids to see the display but some get so scared they don't even get out of the cars. The spooky characters maintain a suitable distance from the visitors but some of the more daring get close enough for a selfie or a video.

"Ron and Bambi Krumbach have been a wonderful family to live next door to for the past 15 years," said neighbor Tammy Pachura. "Bambi has volunteered countless hours and is now teaching at a local elementary school while Ron has been a Dublin soccer coach for many years. They have been putting on a fabulous haunted house for all ages to enjoy every Halloween. Behind the eerie fog, fire torches, spooky costumes and creepy decor are some of the best people you will ever know!"

The Krumbach's friends have enjoyed the thrills and excitement so much that they now have volunteers willing to dress-up and be part of the show.

"I think Halloween should be a National Holiday!" chuckles Ron.
