Hurricane-Force Winds Strike Alameda County

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Hurricane-force winds walloped Mt. Allison near Fremont early Tuesday amid a high wind warning in the Bay Area.
The National Weather Service recorded 77 mph winds around shortly before 9 a.m. That's within the criteria of a Category 1 hurricane, which can be anything between 74 to 95 mph.
Hurricane-force winds were also reported in Contra Costa County at Mt. Diablo, where 84 mph winds were recorded in the early morning hours, according to NWS. Winds reached 81 mph at Mt. Umunhum in Santa Clara County.

The North Bay saw even stronger winds, with two areas in Sonoma County reporting winds akin to a Category 2 hurricane. The Healdsburg Hills and Middletown areas also saw winds that reached Category 1 hurricane-level.
