In local races such as sheriff, trustee area, DA and superintendent of county schools, candidates need a 50 percent plus 1 majority to win. This means local races could see winners on Election Day. If no candidate gets 50 percent plus 1, the top two have a runoff in November.
In federal and state races, the top two candidates go on to the November election.
Along with local candidates, the election includes candidates for:
- U.S Senate
- Governor
- Lieutenant Governor
- Secretary of State
- Controller
- Treasurer
- Attorney General
- Insurance Commissioner
- Member of State Board of Equalization
- State Superintendent of Public Instruction
- U.S Representative in Congress
- State Senator
- State Assembly Member
Polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters can track their ballots here.
