Starbucks on Dublin Boulevard Closed Due to Restrooms

Some Dubliners looking for their morning Starbucks fix were disappointed Friday morning.

The Starbucks on the 7900 block of Dublin Boulevard was closed by the Alameda County Department of Environmental Health on Thursday night because of a lack of working restrooms, according to Ronald Browder of the health department.

The health department was first alerted to an issue at the Starbucks on Jan. 31, when they received an anonymous tip saying there way no hot water in the bathroom and sewage was coming up the floor sink.

On Feb. 1 the health department confirmed the problem and were told by a contractor for Starbucks that the problem would be solved soon.

But the issues was more serious than originally thought and it was determined that a sewer pipe was broken.

The contractor has been working the problem throughout the day Friday and Starbucks is hoping to get an emergency inspection at 5 p.m. to reopen.

A note on the front door, from Starbucks, said:

Gloria Perez, who works at the Luggage Center, which is next door to the Starbucks, says their restroom is also closed due to the pipe issues.

"When I pulled into the parking lot this morning, it was all empty," Perez said. "There was a Starbucks employee out front telling people the store was closed because of the pipes and a few people were begging for 'just one coffee'."

Perez says she gets her morning coffee at Starbucks every day and had to go across the street to get coffee at the Burger King.

"While I was there getting my coffee, there were two other people getting coffee as well," she said.
