2. Alex's Lemonade Stand in honor of Mason Wilson

When: Aug. 31 - Sept. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Lundardi's Markets, 345 Railroad Ave., Danville

Help raise money to fight childhood cancer by partaking in some cold lemonade this weekend. The local stand is being hosted by Bridget Casson in honor or Mason Wilson, who passed away earlier this year. Proceeds will go the nonprofit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

3. Livermore Valley's Harvest Wine Celebration

When: Sept. 1-2, noon - 5 p.m.

Where: See all the participating Livermore Valley wineries

A wine country tradition, Livermore Valley's Harvest Wine Celebration celebrates crush season with wine tasting, live music, food trucks, activities and fun across the area. Tickets are $40 per person and include wine tastings, commemorative Livermore Valley Wine Country GoVino glass, wine discounts and activities.

4. Gio Gelati opens in San Ramon

When: Labor Day Weekend

Where: City Center Bishop Ranch, 6000 Bollinger Canyon Rd., San Ramon

The very Italian San Francisco gelato shop Gio Gelati will begin scooping its delicious flavors in the Tri-Valley beginning this Labor Day weekend when the company officially opens its second location in San Ramon's City Center Bishop Ranch. The team that brought Gio Gelati to the Bay area is manager Guido Mastropaolo, from Pesaro/Genova, Italy, and gelato chef Patrizia Pasqualetti, from Orvieto, Italy. They are making their delicacies with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, but when something can't be found it is imported from Italy.

5. Kitten Adoption

When: Aug. 31 - Sept. 1, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Where: PetSmart Dublin (west), 6960 Amador Plaza Rd., Dublin

If you're looking to add to your family, consider adopting a needy kitten. Tri-Valley Animal Rescue is promoting two adoption events at PetSmart Dublin (west) this weekend. Local shelters currently have a high number of kittens, and TVAR cooperates with these area facilities —primarily Dublin's East County Animal Shelter — to provide homeless animals with socialization, foster homes, medical care and an opportunity for a second chance.
