Tractor Trailer Catches Fire, Shuts Down SR-84: Sig Alert
One driver was seriously hurt as a result of the fiery crash.
PLEASANTON, CA — State Road 84 in Sunol, west of northbound I-680, was closed for much of Wednesday after a truck and trailer carrying wood and cardboard caught fire, the California Highway Patrol said.
One driver suffered major injuries, while another suffered minor injuries. Dark, billowing smoke could be seen from the roadway.
All eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-84 were closed at the site of the crash. Drivers were advised to use northbound I-680 to eastbound I-580 for their afternoon commute, CHP said.

CHP said it expected the road to reopen around 3:30 p.m.
The crash was reported around 9:30 a.m., CHP's dispatch log shows. Photos indicate a Honda sedan was also involved.

The Pacific Gas & Electric Co. reported an outage of nearly 70 customers in the area at 9:50 a.m. It's unclear if the two incidents are connected, as PG&E has not yet assessed the cause of the outage.
The estimated power restoration time is currently 1:30 p.m.
