Wait List Started For NorCal First Alarm Girls Fire Camp
The girls' camp is supported by local fire agencies and state groups, and the NorCal Women In The Fire Service.

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — A two-day camp that seeks to create opportunities for girls, using skills from the fire service, may still have a spot for your child. The NorCal First Alarm Girls Fire Camp (Grades 9-12) is full, but a wait list has been started and officials are urging sign-ups.
The annual camp hosted by United Fire Service Women, September 28-29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., takes place at the San Francisco Fire Department Training Facility on Treasure Island. Sign up on the wait list.
The girls’ camp is supported by local fire agencies and state groups, and the NorCal Women In The Fire Service. It is designed to establish a safe place where girls can be mentored by female firefighters.

"We want to show girls that their career goals are limited only by their ambition, we teach them that they have the internal strength to overcome any obstacle," according to a statement on the NorCal Women in the Fire Service website. "By having professional women firefighters teaching girls to challenge their beliefs about their own potential, we hope to help correct the disparate impact of too few women and minorities in the fire service.
