Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. Properties in Healdsburg saw a huge jump in value this year ? a bigger year-over-year increase than any other part of Sonoma County, according to county officials. Overall, Healdsburg's property values are up 13.6 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. These findings are part of an annual assessment just released by the Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor's office. Here's what else our county assessor found in the latest report, as reported by the Press Democrat: "The net value of all properties in Sonoma County reached a record in 2022 valued at $108 billion, according to Sonoma County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor Deva Marie Proto. The new high was spurred by a 6.46% increase in the assessment over last year, which the county attributed to 'Sonoma County?s very strong residential market combined with a 2% increase in the Consumer Price Index,' according to a news release from the county. Property tax from the assessment roll will go toward public benefits and services, including public K-12 schools, community colleges and municipalities." You can look up the assessor's estimate of how much your property is worth ? and dispute it, if you want ? on the county's website. (Sonoma County Government & Press Democrat; paywall)
  2. There was a 2.5-acre vegetation fire out Chemise Road off West Dry Creek, in the hills west of Healdsburg, on Saturday afternoon. It appears it was located within the same area as 2020's big Walbridge fire. The cause of this latest Chemise fire has not been named yet by local fire officials. (CAL FIRE via Facebook)
  3. Also: Some neighbors were startled later that night by fireworks being set off just north of town. Turns out they were coming from a big, joint fundraiser for the fire departments of Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Knights Valley and Geyserville called "Wine Country to the Rescue." The fireworks were "conducted by a professional fireworks company in the middle of a vineyard with multiple fire engines on standby," according to the Northern Sonoma County Fire District. Meanwhile, the chief for that same agency, Marshall Tuberville, was spotted at the event doing an "around the world" dance at the request of Healdsburg's state senator, Mike McGuire. This, according to the "Shop Local Healdsburg" Instagram account, who also reported that the fundraiser "raised a record $300,000 from direct and generous donations through the silent and live auctions" and "honored a Life Time Achievement Award to Linda Collister ? who recently retired after serving 25 years as the Fire Marshall Division Chief" for the Healdsburg Fire Dept.
