(Healdsburg, CA) Healdsburg has been one of eight American cities selected for the American Institute of Architect’s prestigious Sustainable Design Assessment Team. A team of 7 specially selected architects, urban designers, landscape architects, planners, artists, and economists will visit Healdsburg August 13-15, 2018. The SDAT program helps communities develop a vision of a sustainable future and a realistic, attainable
roadmap to get there.
Incredibly, this will be the second time an AIA grant has been won by Healdsburg. A Rural/Urban Design Assessment Team visited Healdsburg 36 years ago and provided recommendations that helped transform the city from economic subsistence to the vibrant tourist driven economy citizens enjoy today.
The citizens of Healdsburg have been invited to share their voice by offering opinions and priorities for their future with the SDAT team on August 13th at 6pm in the Healdsburg High School Gym. That meeting will be proceeded by intensive “stakeholder” meetings with experts and influencers from the city. After exploring the
dynamics that affect the city and listening to the voices of the community, the SDAT team will draft a report outlining how the city can meet the challenges and opportunities facing the city and insuring a sustainable future. That general report will be revealed in the form of a presentation, August 15, 2018 also at the High school at 6pm with a final detailed report published 2-3 months later.

“We are very excited at the City about these meetings and how we might use the AIA’s information to guide decisions affecting the future of Healdsburg through 2040.”, said Healdsburg City Manager David Mickaelian.
The city is wrestling with maintaining the unique charm and simplicity of Healdsburg’s lifestyle while addressing affordable housing, senior housing, economic diversity, parking, cultural vitality, racial representation, and the loss of families in the city.

“This program will help us discover what we need to do next in Healdsburg to continue this wonderful place, but also what we can do to become more sustainable and no matter what…we are only as good as the people who show up and share their voice,” commented Healdsburg Mayor Brigette Mansell who is encouraging city-wide participation in the August 13th meeting.
