Motorcyclist Dies In West Sonoma County Crash

A Santa Rosa man was riding with a group of friends on Annapolis Road when he went off the roadway for reasons not yet known, the CHP said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist who was riding with a group of friends Tuesday in remote West Sonoma County died when he left the roadway and ran into a fence, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was identified Wednesday afternoon by the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner's Office as Jason Craig, 48, of Santa Rosa.

The fatal incident happened at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday on Annapolis Road near Stewarts Point-Skaggs Springs Road, CHP Officer David deRutte said.

Initial reports indicated Craig was riding his BMW motorcycle eastbound on Annapolis with a group of other riders when for reasons not yet known, he lost control of the bike and ran off the road, deRutte said.

The motorcycle and rider collided with a metal wire fence, according to the CHP.

"Sonoma Coast Fire arrived on scene and life-saving measures were attempted. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased," deRutte said.

CHP officials did not immediately believe any foul play was involved, nor did they believe drug or alcohol impairment were factors.
