SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon after colliding with a car on U.S. Highway 101 in Cloverdale, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to the crash at approximately 1:18 p.m. on southbound Highway 101 north of Dutcher Creek. The preliminary investigation by the CHP has indicated that a Volvo, driven by Scott Stanton, 51, of Willits, was traveling southbound in the right lane of the freeway, and a Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling in the same direction behind the Volvo.

For unknown reasons, the Volvo drifted onto the right shoulder of the highway, colliding with a guardrail. The Volvo veered back to the left across both lanes of traffic, directly in front of the motorcycle.
