Update: Two Killed in Fatal Crash Involving Ferrari on Hwy. 1

The car crossed all lanes of traffic before striking a tree and going up in flames. The two occupants of the Ferrari were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people were killed this morning on state Highway 1 in Sonoma County when a red Ferrari crashed into a tree and burst into flames, sparking a small brush fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car, a 1996 Ferrari 355 GTS was traveling south just north of Kruse Ranch Road when it left the west side of the road, then turned and crossed all lanes before leaving the east side of the road, CHP Officer Marcus Hawkins said. The car then struck a tree and caught fire, sparking a blaze that spread 75 feet into the brush and shrubs on the hillside.

The two occupants of the Ferrari were both pronounced dead at the scene, Hawkins said.
