Woman Dies During Russian River Floating Outing

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A woman who died on an outing Wednesday on the Russian River in Guerneville has been identified as Tanya Jo Furia, 49, of Guerneville, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

Furia and others were on floating devices at Dubrava Beach on the river when Furia suffered a medical event, Russian River Fire Protection District Capt. Ryan Lantz said.

Bystanders were giving Furia CPR when fire district paramedics responded around 2:15 p.m. and continued life-saving efforts, Lantz said.

Furia died at the scene. An autopsy will determine the cause and manner of Furia's death, sheriff's office spokeswoman Misti Harris said.
