This Monday, August 19, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, the Dana Point Harbor Partners (DPHP) is hosting a retail design community workshop. The public is invited to this free event and encouraged to review and provide feedback to DPHP on various aspects of the Dana Point Harbor Commercial Core Revitalization Plan.

Five stations, each addressing a different design element of the Commercial Core, will enable residents to comment and vote (anonymously) on all aspects of the Harbor's new look. Materials, color palettes, patios, trellises and awnings and landscape materials are among the design elements for which DPHP is seeking public input.

The public will be able to weigh in on the new Harbor’s “Tenant Mix.” Dana Point City Manager Mark Denny said “[T]he DPHP team made has been very clear with me that it is their intent to keep all of the existing lessees in the harbor and each lessee will be offered a right of first refusal.” However, DPHP seeks public feedback on uses for new square footage along with reviews on current businesses.

Public events is another key area about which DPHP is anxious to hear from people. In speaking with Bryon Ward, one of the DPHP partners, he expressed DPHP’s eagerness to learn what types of events the public would attend. He explained that the partnership is developing a master plan for a cohesive land/water experience the residents and tourists alike can enjoy and events is a major component.

Ward also made it clear that DPHPs is making a concerted effort to weave the history of Dana Point and its surfing heritage into the project. He indicated DPHP is in discussions with Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) to integrate a surfing museum at the Harbor.

The more public input, the greater likelihood the new Dana Harbor will reflect the people's vision of their Harbor. This is the public's chance to speak face to face to with people creating the look and feel of the iconic Dana Point Harbor. I hope to see you all there Monday night!
