Thanks Congressman Levin!
A Dana Point City Council member shares her recent trip to DC and meeting with the new Congressman from the 49th district.

Thanks Congressman Levin!
I was lucky enough to represent my city, Dana Point, in a recent trip to Washington DC. The shutdown had just ended. The wheels of government were turning again. Making my way through the halls of the House of Representatives' Longworth Building, I heard hundreds of heels clicking on white marble floors as Congress members, staffers and visitors rushed to get to the rooms where it happens. Excited voices echoed as the Capitol was once again was abuzz with the people’s business. As far as I could see, American and state flags framed the many doorways lining both sides of the long hallway. Gold letters on black leather grain placards surrounded by a thin gold frame elegantly bore the name and state of each representative. I couldn’t help but feel I was in the presence of history. And there it was. Room 1626. Representative Mike Levin. California.
Our group had come a long way to meet our new Congressman about the problems back home. Homelessness, residential recovery homes, nuclear waste stored on the beach at San Onofre and the environment. Coming out of his first subcommittee meeting, Mike welcomed us, squeezing about a dozen of us into his office. He met with us for about an hour, confirming with his staffer who popped her head in that he was free until noon for us. Given the enormous demands on his time, the group was especially appreciative. Mike listened patiently and spoke knowledgeably, engaging with us in a productive discussion. He was definitely up on the latest developments.

I read in today’s San Diego Union Tribune that Congressman Levin just formed a task force to study moving and storing San Onofre’s nuclear waste. He is quoted in the article as saying “[I]t is imperative that people who live around the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station have a voice in the future of the facility.” We couldn’t agree more.
The Congressman just opened an office at the Dana Point City Hall. He told us it will be staffed with both permanent and part time staff in the very near future. In addition, Congressman Levin will be holding Town Halls throughout his district.
