UCCE Master Gardeners – Orange County 2021 Online Training – Apply Nov. 2 through Dec. 1, 2020 Would you like to become a UCCE Master Gardener? University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are volunteers who extend UC horticulture education to their communities. Using a variety of activities such as workshops, lectures, a garden hotline and information booths at local events, we educate Orange County residents about home horticulture, sustainable landscaping, and integrated pest management using University of California research-based information. Master Gardeners help increase gardening and science literacy to support healthy plants, healthy environments and healthy communities. What is required? ● Basic knowledge and interest in landscape and food gardening ● Interest in increasing your horticulture skills ● Desire to volunteer in the community ● Basic computer skills ● Residence in Orange County Master Gardener classes cover a broad range of horticultural topics, including: ● Botany and plant pathology ● Plant propagation ● Integrated pest management ● Soils and composting ● Fruit tree care and vegetable gardening ● Water quality and conservation The 2021 class will be conducted, via Zoom, every Thursday from February 25 – June 24, 2021. Attendance is required for these “live” classes with additional activities, labs, reading and video recorded lectures to be completed at home. If you have other commitments on the instructional dates that require more than one absence, we ask that you wait to apply in the future. After training Master Gardeners are required to complete minimum volunteer and continuing education hours each year. Before applying to be considered for the 2021 Master Gardeners Training program, potential applicants should view BOTH of these informational videos that outline program benefits and requirements: ● Becoming A Master Gardener in Orange County; and ● UC Master Gardener Program “Advice To Grow By…Ask Us!” Starting November 2nd, these videos and the application for the 2021 Master Gardener Training program will be available on our website at mgorange.ucanr.edu. Click on the “How to Become a Master Gardener” link under “About Us.” Applications must be received by December 1, 2020.
