City Explores Options to Broaden Slashed Recreation Programs
Plans being examined include partnering with the school district or civic groups to host open activity nights.

The city is exploring a number of options to expand its recreation programs, which were curtailed sharply when officials cut the department two years ago.
The proposals include partnering with local civic organizations to share responsibility for offering activities to the community, U-T San Diego reported.
Costs would have to be recouped for events held at the community recreation center, 3131 School Lane, but would be adjusted according to a three-tier system. Some activities would require full cost recovery for the city and some as low as 75 percent.
Candidates for hosting the recreation center for open activity nights include the Lemon Grove School District and the Rotary Club.
Renting out the recreation center has boosted revenues for the city, allowing officials to capture 90 percent of the costs of the activities provided in the current fiscal year, the report said.
