Ilse Hanning's Local Work in Schools an 'Everyday Inspiration'
Patch readers told us who the "Everyday Inspirations" in their communities are, and we're sharing their stories and the work they've done locally.
Everyday Inspirations is a series that features people in Patch communities who inspire others through their work, or people who have faced extraordinary situations and grown from them. They have been featured by other people in the community that have been inspired by the nominees.
Name: Ilse Hanning
Town: Lemon Grove, CA
Nominated by: Helen Ofield
Why is this person an "Everyday Inspiration?"
Her indefatigable efforts on behalf of our schools, Soroptimist scholarships and other works, cultural activity, the expansion and beautification of St. John of the Cross campus (often overlooked, but a wonderful component of our city), international relations, multilingualism and more make her a driving force in Lemon Grove.
How does this person work to make others' lives better?
She joined the Lemon Grove School District in 1956 as a teacher, became a principal (one of the first women in California to serve as a principal), and later assistant superintendent of the district. She filled these roles as our community was diversifying and was in the vanguard of setting goals in academic achievement for many children new to the community.
