Swalwell Retains Congressional Seat

EAST BAY, CA — East Bay voters have decided they want U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) to serve another term.

The Associated Press called the race in his favor Wednesday morning.

Swalwell faced a challenge from Republican and special education teacher Alison Hayden in the race to represent California's 15th Congressional District.

Swalwell maintained a significant lead over Hayden as votes trickled in Tuesday night. Here's the latest count:

Swalwell, who was once a 2020 presidential candidate, and Hayden were the top two vote-getters in the March primary. Swalwell held a significant lead with 59 percent of the vote, while Hayden came in second place with 17 percent.

Two Democrats, a Republican and a nonpartisan candidate split the remaining 14 percent of the vote.

California's 15th Congressional District includes all or part of the following communities: San Ramon; Dublin; Pleasanton; Livermore; Hayward; Union City; Fremont; Castro Valley; San Lorenzo; San Leandro; Danville; Cherryland; Ashland; Sunol; and Fairview.
