Celebration Of Life For Dr. Philip Manwell

Manwell was well-known throughout the community.

From Las Positas College: Las Positas College will celebrate the life of Dr. Philip Manwell, longtime dean of academic services for arts and communication.

A friend and employee of the college, Manwell served the LPC community for 25 years. After his retirement in 2011, Manwell returned in 2017 to perform 18th century organ music as part of the College President's Speaker Series.

Manwell was well-known throughout the community as an educator, philanthropist and champion of the arts. He was once the recipient of Alameda County's Champion for the Arts honor and participated in community events at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts, Livermore Valley Opera, Livermore Shakespeare Festival, and Livermore Public Library.

Additionally, Manwell obtained diplomas in organ and composition from the Paris Conservatoire, bachelors and masters degrees from The Julliard School, and a doctorate of education from the
University of San Francisco.

Throughout his life he was a soloist, chamber player, recording artist and conductor, performing in the United States, Europe, Canada and Australia, as well as for international recording companies, radio, and television.
