Contra Costa Co. Head-On Collision Thursday Hospitalizes One

The CHP is investigating a head-on collision early Thursday morning that injured three people and knocked down power lines.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on collision early Thursday morning that injured three people, knocked down power lines and closed Byron Highway for an extended time, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District said.

The collision between a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle was reported at 3:30 a.m., with one vehicle off the road and a utility pole sheared and resting across the truck, officials said.

One person was flown by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, while two others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The collision caused major damage to one passenger vehicle and the semi-truck, and minor damage to other two passenger vehicles.
