Debra Ann Byrd Returns (Virtually) to Livermore Shakes
Livermore – Founder of Harlem Shakespeare Festival and classical actress, Debra Ann Byrd brings her one woman show, BECOMING OTHELLO: A Black Girl’s Journey, back to Livermore (virtually) as part of Livermore Shakespeare Festival’s LifeSPARC series.
Previously holding developmental workshops of the piece with LSF in 2019, Byrd has toured her finalized work around the world to rave reviews. Described as a living memoir, BECOMING OTHELLO focuses on a young woman’s trials and triumphs with race and the classics, her memorable experiences growing up in East Harlem and her gender flipped journey on the road to becoming Shakespeare’s noble, flawed general, Othello.
LSF will hold a virtual viewing of this inspiring piece Saturday, May 29th at 5:00PM PST, which will be followed by a Live Zoom Q&A with the author and performer herself. Program Only tickets are also available and allow you to watch the show at your leisure from Thursday, May 28th through Sunday, May 30th. Filled with lyrical language and moving songs, this is not an event to be missed.
