LIVERMORE, CA — Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire outside of a home in Livermore early Monday morning. The blaze was reported in the 2100 block of Buckskin Road just before 5:30 a.m.

According to Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Kurtis Dickey, the fire started on the outside of the home and eventually ruptured a gas meter. Firefighters had to let the gas burn while waiting for PG&E crews to shut off the line.

"The fire melted the inside of the gas shut off valve which then began to leak gas. The leaking gas then ignited from the burning material that surrounded the gas valve," Dickey said.

Fire investigators were not able to determine what sparked the blaze. No one was injured and the six residents of the home were displaced, Dickey said. Smoke from the fire caused damage in the home, according to Dickey.
