Happy Mother’s Day To Kinga Garcia
On her mom's first Mother's Day since losing her youngest, Lexy, to an accused DUI driver, her middle daughter pens a touching tribute.

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Kristyn McQueen's letter to her mom:
Dear Mom (Kinga),
There are so many wonderful things I can say about you as a mom. You raised your three girls to be creative and use their imaginations. Rather than sticking us in front of a TV, you read us books and gave us a love for reading that lasted into adulthood. Despite always having a full-time job so you could pay for our private school education, you somehow always had the energy to stay up late and sew our Halloween costumes, Christmas outfits and First Communion dresses.
We all saw and appreciated the sacrifices you made to give us the childhood you didn't have. More than anything, you protected us. You shielded us from bullies, demanded stitches for your bleeding kid from a hospital claiming they couldn't provide them and encouraged us when boys broke our hearts. The Leo in you is more than just your Zodiac sign. You have always been a mama lion keeping her cubs as safe as you could.
On your first Mother's Day after losing Lexy, your baby, it is clear that you are not only your children's biggest supporter and protector in life, but in death as well. The little and big things you've done to continue being her mom make my heart hurt. I know how painful it is to cancel her insurance, do her laundry one last time or have her friends over when she can't be there with them. You do all those things and so much more through tears and suffering, but you push through it because you are hardwired to be a mom and your job isn't over, even now.
You have an even bigger job to do to protect Lexy's legacy, one I hope helps fill the hole in your heart until you can be with Lexy again. You have a voice and a message to help keep drunk drivers off the streets, so other mothers don't have to have their babies stolen from them. I am so proud of your feisty spirit and your absolute unwillingness to let this destroy you, and instead, allowing this to give motherhood a new dimension of strength.
Happy Mother's Day from your middle child — I know Lexy is wishing you a day filled with love from Heaven.
Love you,
Kristyn
